Dowding and WWI: The Making of a Commander

14 July - 22 November

Temporary Exhibition Gallery Explore the WWI experiences of Royal Flying Corps pilot Hugh Dowding, and how his experiences shaped his convictions and leadership as Commander-in-Chief of Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain in 1940 – based at RAF Bentley Priory, Stanmore. This exhibition has been co-curated by volunteers and has been generously funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Join us over half-term in commemorating members of the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) who fought in WWI by making freestanding poppies. The poppies will be used for a display accompanying our WWI concert performed by Tonic Choir and children from Kenmore Park Junior School on Saturday 11th November. Friday Morning Talks: ‘Poppies, Pilots and Pictures: Exploring Remembrance in the Aftermath of War’

Join us for another Friday morning talk, when we explore the stories and experiences of both servicemen and civilians in the First World War, what life was like for them and how they coped with the threat of war.
