DESCRIPTION:Join us on Zoom for an Online Talk about the Sir John Soane’s Museum and discover the story behind the architect\, who was responsible for many of the design features of the Bentley Priory Mansion House\n\nIn 1788\, The Marquess of Abercorn commissioned architect Sir John Soane to extend and refurbish Bentley Priory in ‘a more lavish and sumptuous manner’.  Best known for his design of the Bank of England\, Sir John Soane specialised in neo-classical architecture and clever designs which encouraged natural light into rooms and buildings. Soane’s additions to Bentley Priory include the stained glass windows in the Reception Hall and the spectacular Rotunda. \nFrom son of a bricklayer to friend of the King\, learn about the extraordinary life of Sir John Soane – architect\, collector\, and curator – and the legacy he left behind in his home and museum. Floating rooms\, hidden paintings\, and a 3\,000 year old sarcophagus\, this presentation will give you a glimpse into one of the most awe-inspiring house museums in the UK\, if not the world. \nThe talk will be delivered online by the Sir John Soane’s Museum. \nJoining the Talk \nThe talk will be held online on Zoom at 11am on Friday 01st July.
