SUMMARY:Friday Morning Talks: Photographic Reconnaissance and Interpretation – With Aldon Ferguson
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Museum for our Friday morning talk\, where Aldon Ferguson will be talking to us about Photographic Reconnaissance and Interpretation. \nEven since the beginning of the First World War it has been possible and vital for military commanders to have knowledge of their enemy’s disposition\, numbers and support in order to plan future campaigns and battles. Starting from static balloons tethered close to the front line to the ultra sophistication of modern satellite imagery\, this talk explains how the material is gathered and how it is interpreted. \nIt will take place in the Museum’s Learning Centre for those with Museum admission or Annual Membership. \nAdvance booking required – please reserve your place via the link below. \nReserve Your Place

SUMMARY:Remembrances of War
DESCRIPTION:Paul Joyce has provided the opportunity for Bentley Priory Museum to present\, for the first time\, his unique collection of pictures inspired by his memories of The Second World War. His paintings combine personal impressions of earth-shattering events with received images\, which we have scarcely recovered from eight decades on. His claim to be the sole remaining artist still dealing with the emotional and psychological effects of a conflict which ended with the only time nuclear weapons have been used in battle\, is probably accurate. We are pleased to present these unforgettable events\, honed by his particular vision\, to the public as a premiere event. \nPaul Joyce’s work is held in many private and public collections\, including: The Royal Collection of Queen Elizabeth the Second; The Department of the Environment\, The Arts Council of Great Britain\, The Victoria and Albert Museum\, The National Portrait Gallery\, London\, The Tate Gallery\, Bibliothèque Nationale de France\, The National Museum of Wales in Cardiff\, The American Film Institute and The Library of Congress\, as well as a number of institutions and universities in the UK\, Europe and the United States. \nLUCIDA PRODUCTIONS HOMEPAGE

SUMMARY:Friday Morning Talks: Nine from One: The true story of 9 RAF pilots from 1 family in 106 years - With Anthony Inglis
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Friday morning talk\, where renowned Music Director Anthony Inglis Howard-Williams ARCM will talk about his family’s incredible RAF service. \nThis presentation\, given by an ambassador for the Royal Air Forces Association\, is the story of his own family sending nine members to war. Incredibly\, all survived. All except one served in the 2nd World War\, and two were in the RFC/RNAS. They number an Air Marshal who came up with the idea of the Dunkirk little ships and was CAS for the RNZAF\, to a Flight Lieutenant in 18 Sqn currently flying Chinooks out of Odiham. There was also an Air Commodore who was number 2 to Dowding at Bentley Priory when Keith Park was absent\, later becoming executive chairman of RAFA\, founding Airmail. A Battle of Britain pilot with Douglas Bader in 19 Sqn at Duxford from the start. An Air-Vice Marshal who after Pearl Harbour persuaded Roosevelt against the advice of his own service chiefs\, that Churchill’s request for the “Germany First” policy was agreed\, ensuring the success of the Arcadia Conference. A Flt Lt who joined the RAF at the age of 66.
