Friday Morning Talks: ‘ACHTUNG JÄGER! The Successes & Failures of the German Fighter Force in the Battle of Britain’

September 4, 2020 at 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join us for another Friday Morning Talk when speaker Chris Goss will explore the Luftwaffe’s perspective of the Battle of Britain.

Despite being buoyed by the successes in Poland, France and the Low Countries, for the German fighter pilots, the Battle of Britain would be a different matter. Nevertheless, by 31 October 1940, 204 of them had five air combat victories or more and 36 had been or would be awarded the coveted Knights Cross. However, 25 of them would be killed and 21 captured during the Battle of Britain with another 90 being killed and 8 captured in the years that followed.

The Battle of Britain is usually seen through the eyes of the victors; this talk aims to explore the perspective of the losers.
