Friday Morning Talks: The Barmaid who built Spitfires – With Mark Lemon

Join us for our Friday morning talk, where Mark Lemon will be talking to us about his Mother’s wartime experience of building Spitfires.

We were given a talk last year by the Spitfire Makers Charitable Trust. Following the bombing on the Supermarine works in Southampton, production needed to be dispersed around Southampton and the surrounding areas into many small industrial units and garages. The dispersal of the manufacturing process, also led to the dispersal of small teams of workers. Mark’s Mother ‘Peggy’ was one of those workers who helped to keep the vital production of Spitfires going at crucial point in the war. Mark will be here to tell her story.

This talk will take place onsite in the Museum’s Learning Centre and is included in Museum admission or Annual Membership.
